Maria Dossin studied with Professor Boris Tevlin (Choral Conducting) and Vassily Sinaisky (Orchestral Conducting), and has participated in several master classes with renowned conductors such as Gennady Rozhdiestvensky, Helmut Rieling, Kuno Areng and others. Her final dissertation work was a large research on the Russian “Silver Century” composers (from 1880s to 1940s) including a detailed analysis of Arthur Louirier’s choral works. Maria
Dossin has a large repertoire that includes works from the
XV to the XX centuries. During her studies in Moscow Maria
Dossin acquired a wide knowledge of different choral
styles and an advanced vocal training. As a graduate of
the most prestigious Conservatory in Russia, which
continues to develop the best choral traditions in Russia
over the centuries, Mrs. Dossin received a very profound
training on Russian choral music a cappella. She
was fortunate to study under supervision of professors who
became legends of Russian choral music, theory, harmony,
counterpoint and musicology. While a student at the Conservatory, Maria Dossin has participated in choral concerts in Germany, Italy, Austria, and throughout Russia. As a singer and as a soloist she performed a wide range of choral literature in several world premieres of works by contemporary composers such as Sophia Gubaidulina, Artur Lourier and Viktor Suslin. She also participated in joint concerts with violinist Gidon Kremer and violoncellist Vladimir Tonkha in Russia and was invited as a singer to famous music festivals in Europe (such as Lockenhaus in Austria) for European premieres of contemporary music. Maria Dossin has a large concert experience that includes conducting the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory Choir, the Choir of the Russian Academy of Music, the Moscow Conservatory Women’s and Chamber Choirs and several children’s choirs. She has conducted in the most prestigious concert halls in Russia (Great Hall, Small Hall and Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and Great Hall of the Russian Academy of Music) and has also conducted the Theater Sao Pedro Chamber Orchestra in Brazil. During her last year of studies at the Conservatory she had an advanced training as a choirmaster with the famous Bolshoi Theater Choir. In 1998 Maria Dossin began her career in the US. During her three years in Austin, Texas, Maria successfully worked in Austin Independent School District as a Choir Director (Mendez Middle School). She developed a private studio, teaching piano, voice, theory and aural skills, and worked at Kirby Hall School as a piano instructor. Maria Dossin was also Children’s Choir Director and pianist at St. Mark United Methodist Church. After moving to Louisiana in 2001, Maria Dossin was the Music Director and Conductor of the Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra, Music Director at Grace Presbyterian Church and Choir Instructor at the Episcopal School of Acadiana, considered one of the best private schools in Louisiana. Mrs. Dossin performed regularly in the Lafayette community as a singer. Recent appearances included Handel’s Messiah with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra ensemble and performances of Brazilian classical and contemporary music during the First Latin American Week, organized by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Maria Dossin moved to Wisconsin in August 2002, after her husband accepted a piano position at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. During her four years as Director of Sacred Music at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Dossin performed actively as a conductor, organist and singer. Maria Dossin is currently on the faculty at the University of Oregon School of Music.
