These are not so much transcriptions, more re-workings of thematic material. They make for excellent listening, because no one appreciated Verdi's melodies better than Liszt. He elaborates the Duke's "Bella figlia" (Rigoletto), plays around with the sacred dance and final duet from Aida and creates a medley out of various scenes from Simon Boccanegra. Behind the virtuoso surface and popular touch, Dossin - like Liszt - treats the music with the utmost respect.
